At least 12 US service members were injured Friday when Iran launched a missile strike on Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, according to American officials.
Two of the injured are reported to be in serious condition.
The attack also caused damage to multiple US refueling aircraft stationed at the base, officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the incident.
The strike comes amid continued Iranian missile attacks targeting Israel and Gulf Arab states.
In response, Israel indicated plans to expand its military operations against Iranian targets, while US forces reportedly carried out retaliatory strikes.
President Donald Trump, however, postponed his earlier threat to target Iran’s energy infrastructure over the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
Citing market instability and ongoing negotiations, he extended the deadline for reopening the strategic waterway to 6 April, noting that Iran had requested additional time.
Iran, meanwhile, publicly denied engaging in talks with Washington regarding a resolution.
In parallel developments, Iran launched additional missiles toward Israel early Saturday following earlier strikes that killed one person and wounded several others.
Air raid sirens were reported in northern Israel near the Lebanon border, where attacks by Hezbollah have persisted.
The conflict also intensified in the occupied West Bank. Palestinian officials said Israeli forces killed three individuals in separate incidents.
A 22-year-old man was killed during a raid in the Qalandiya refugee camp, drawing large crowds to his funeral. Another man was killed in a subsequent raid in the same area.
Additionally, a 15-year-old boy was shot and killed during an Israeli raid near Bethlehem. The Israeli military stated that troops opened live fire in response to stone-throwing by Palestinian residents.
Commenting on his role in the crisis, Trump described himself as a peacemaker, expressing hope that history would remember him for efforts to promote peace despite the escalating conflict.
The missile strike on the Saudi base underscores the growing regional instability, with US casualties highlighting the widening scope of the confrontation.
