A Bhuiyan Paribahan bus caught fire while parked in the House Building area of Uttara on Friday morning.
The incident occurred around 9.30am. The police and fire service officials confirmed the matter.
The Uttara East Police Station Inspector (Investigation) told TIMES of Bangladesh that the blaze was caused by an electrical short circuit.
According to the official, the driver and helper had left the vehicle running in gear while they went to a nearby tea stall, which led to the electrical malfunction.
No injuries were reported in connection with the incident. When questioned about the possibility of foul play, the inspector clarified that no evidence of sabotage was found, though the authorities are continuing to investigate the matter.
Earlier, two units of Fire Service arrived at the scene at 9.57am and able to extinguish the fire after 20 minutes of effort.
