Zubaida Rahman, wife of Tarique Rahman, the elder son of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, visited Evercare Hospital on Friday to see her mother-in-law.
She arrived directly at the hospital from the airport at around 11:45am. The BNP Media Cell confirmed that a medical board meeting would take place in her presence to review Khaleda Zia’s latest health condition.
Earlier, Zubaida Rahman landed at Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport at 10:45am on Bangladesh Airlines flight BG-302. She arrived to accompany Khaleda Zia for advanced treatment in London.
At the airport, Zubaida Rahman was welcomed by UK doctor Richard Bailey, her elder sister Shahina Khan Zaman, her husband, retired Air Commodore Syed Shafiuzzaman, and Atikur Rahman Ruman from the BNP Media Cell.
Also present at the airport were the Chairperson’s personal secretary ABM Abdus Sattar, retired Brigadier General Shamsul Islam Shams, Sharmin Akhter, and retired Major Moinul Hossain.
Khaleda Zia is currently under intensive observation in the Critical Care Unit at the hospital. She is expected to travel to London with Begum Zia in a Royal Ambulance provided by the Qatar royal family.
On Thursday, at 6:03pm London time, Zubaida Rahman departed from Heathrow Airport on Bangladesh Airlines’ direct London-Dhaka flight.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir informed the media that Qatar’s air ambulance, which was scheduled to land in Dhaka Thursday night, has been delayed due to technical issues.
He stated, “Qatar is considering alternatives. If confirmed, we will depart for London at any time during the day, as we cannot travel in the early morning.”
Khaleda Zia was admitted to Evercare Hospital on 23 November after experiencing breathing difficulties. Tests revealed a lung infection, and she was hospitalized for treatment.
Nearly 80 years old, Khaleda Zia has been suffering from long-standing health issues, including heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, liver cirrhosis, and kidney complications.
On 30 November, her condition worsened, and she was moved to the ICU. Doctors are still considering her health status as ‘critical’.
