Dr Zubaida Rahman, daughter-in-law of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, has left Dhaka for London.
This was announced in a post on BNP’s official Facebook page on Saturday. It stated that Dr Zubaida, wife of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, departed from Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on a Qatar Airways flight at 8:30am.
Earlier, on 5 December, she had arrived in Dhaka from London on a Bangladesh Biman flight.
There had been plans to take Khaleda Zia to London for advanced treatment on an air ambulance. However, due to her physical condition, she could not be taken.
Meanwhile, Tarique Rahman is scheduled to return to Bangladesh on 25 December. He has already received a travel pass to return from London. Just before his return, his wife left the country again.
Dr Zubaida is a member of the medical board formed for Khaleda Zia’s treatment. She regularly joins the board’s meetings virtually.
On the night of 23 November, Khaleda Zia was taken to Dhaka’s Evercare Hospital after experiencing breathing difficulties. Tests revealed an infection in her lungs, and she was admitted.
Nearly 80 years old, Khaleda Zia has long been suffering from multiple health complications, including heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, liver cirrhosis, and kidney problems.
In the early morning of 30 November, her condition deteriorated further, and she was moved to the CCU. Doctors still consider Khaleda Zia’s health condition to be “critical”.
Her treatment is being overseen by a medical board led by Professor Shahabuddin Talukder, comprising specialist physicians.
