Actress Mehazabien Chowdhury has condemned the creation and circulation of false AI-generated content designed to humiliate people, calling it a crime rather than entertainment. She has also questioned the role of social media users who spread such material for views, likes and money.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, 15 October, Mehazabien said the problem extends beyond individual wrongdoing when hundreds or thousands of people share the same content, turning it into a wider social concern.
“Why should someone have to be a member of our family for us to respect them as a human being?” she asked, questioning why people need to imagine such abuse happening to their own mothers or sisters before respecting a victim.
She acknowledged that content creation provides a livelihood for many people and that financial struggles are real. But she challenged the price others pay for that income.
“When did another person’s humiliation and disrespect become a means of earning for us?” she asked, criticising the pursuit of views, likes, shares, trending status and even a few dollars at another person’s expense.
Mehazabien stressed that the problem no longer concerns only women or men. Anyone can help spread harmful content, and anyone can become a victim.
“What concerns me most is not only the person creating such content, but the countless people who willingly share it, discuss it and take it to thousands more,” she wrote.
She urged users to consider whether they want to take part in another person’s wrongdoing and reveal a lack of conscience by helping spread such material.
