Eminent lawyer ZI Khan Panna will now represent ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina in cases filed over enforced disappearances and killings.
The International Crimes Tribunal-1 led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder approved his appointment on Sunday.
From now on, Supreme Court lawyer Panna will serve as state defence counsel for Hasina in the cases.
Earlier, he had expressed interest in representing Hasina. In August, he sought permission from the tribunal to defend the former prime minister in a case related to crimes against humanity during the July mass uprising.
The tribunal, however, rejected his initial application.
