Bollywood actor Tusshar Kapoor has approached the police after receiving a voice message demanding Rs5 crore from someone claiming to be gangster Hari Boxer.

According to Telegraph India, the threat comes days after gunshots were fired outside actor Tiger Shroff’s residence in Mumbai’s Juhu area. Police suspect the caller may have tried to exploit the anxiety surrounding the shooting incident.

According to police, Kapoor received a voice note in which the sender threatened him and demanded money.

The actor subsequently contacted the local police, who transferred the case to the crime branch. The anti-extortion cell is now investigating the matter.

However, an initial comparison of the caller’s voice with recordings of previous threats attributed to Hari Boxer suggested that the person was not the gangster, a police officer said.

Hari Boxer, whose real name is Hari Chand Jaat, is associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. He has previously been linked to threats against filmmaker Rohit Shetty and actor Ranveer Singh, with police registering separate cases over those incidents.

Originally from Narayanpur in Rajasthan, Boxer is a former boxing coach who turned to crime. He has faced cases involving extortion, robbery and attempted murder in Rajasthan, Punjab and Delhi. Investigators suspect he is operating from the United States.

Boxer is also believed to have been close to gangster Rohit Godara. However, an attack on Boxer and his associates in California in October last year reportedly took place at Godara’s behest, leaving one person dead.
