Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam has announced a strict zero-tolerance policy against all forms of corruption in cargo operations under the new democratic government.
The minister made the remark during an unannounced inspection of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Sunday to oversee overall airport operations.
During the visit, the minister observed the functioning of the airport’s cargo terminal and instructed officials and staff to ensure fast, hassle-free clearance of goods in accordance with proper procedures.
Later, the minister visited the Biman Bangladesh Airlines hangar complex to review the technical status of flight BG 202, a Boeing 787-9 aircraft.
She probed the aircraft’s technical issues and ordered engineers to swiftly complete central hydraulic system maintenance to restore its airworthiness. She also inspected the cabin and cockpit, checking the functionality of all instruments and panels.
The BG 202 had been grounded at Osmani International Airport in Sylhet due to a technical fault in the central hydraulic system isolator. Maintenance work is currently underway to restore the aircraft to operational status.
Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) Air Vice Marshal Md Mostafa Mahmood Siddiq, along with senior officials of CAAB and Biman Bangladesh Airlines, were present during the inspection.
