President of Yunnan University Ma Wenhui called on University of Dhaka (DU) Vice-Chancellor ABM Obaidul Islam on Wednesday at the latter’s office.
He was accompanied by Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange Wu Yun, Secretary-General of Alumni Association of the university Hu Jianfeng, Deputy Director of the Office of Science and Technology Division Zhang Shilai, Vice-Dean of the Institute of International Relations Luo Weiwei and Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute of Dhaka University Yang Hui, reads a press release.
Treasurer of DU M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Director of the Institute of Modern Languages Mohammad Absar Kamal, Director of the Office of International Affairs Syeda Rozana Rashid and Head of the Department of Chinese Language and Culture MM Afiqur Rahman Nahid were present on this occasion.
Later, a six-member delegation led by Ma Wenhui attended the annual board meeting of the Confucius Institute of Dhaka University at the VC’s Meeting Room.
During the meeting, DU VC expressed willingness to work with Yunnan University to expand academic and research collaboration and create more learning opportunities for youth.
He said the Confucius Institute of Dhaka University has become much more than a language teaching centre, serving as a meaningful bridge for language education, cultural exchange, and strengthening people-to-people ties between Bangladesh and China.
The two sides discussed the possibility of introducing dual degree programmes in artificial intelligence, chemical engineering, software engineering and vocational education between Dhaka University and Yunnan University.
They also stressed strengthening ongoing joint academic and research collaborations, as well as faculty and student exchange programmes.
The annual report and budget of the DU Confucius Institute were reviewed and approved at the board meeting.
