Chief adviser’s Special Assistant Ali Riaz has stated that the participation of young people in the upcoming referendum and national parliamentary elections will lay the foundation for democracy.
He noted that this democracy is the very one for which the July mass uprising was staged.
Speaking as the chief guest at a mock parliament debate competition held at the FDC in the capital, Professor Riaz called upon the youth to work together to build a conscious society and move forward in constructing a beautiful, developed, and democratic Bangladesh.
He emphasised that the country belongs to the youth, who constitute a massive segment of the population and are set to play the most crucial role in determining the future of state governance.
According to Ali Riaz, awareness and participation of the younger generation could turn the tide in the results of both the referendum and the national elections.
He described the youth as generally educated, tech-savvy, and change-oriented individuals who can rapidly shape opinions and influence others through social media, online platforms, and various civic activities.
Consequently, he believes their thoughts and decisions will become the decisive factor in the upcoming polls.
The event, titled “Youth are the decisive factor in determining the results of the upcoming referendum and national parliamentary elections,” was organised by Debate for Democracy.
The competition was moderated by Hassan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiron, Chairman of Debate for Democracy. In the debate, Tejgaon College emerged victorious, defeating the Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT).
