A violent clash broke out between two factions over the construction of a washroom for bathing dead bodies in the capital’s Pallabi area on Saturday afternoon, featuring chases, counter-chases, blank shots, and crude bomb explosions.
The incident took place around 4pm at the Talab Camp area in Section-11 under the Pallabi Police Station. Following the chaos, police detained a Bihari leader.
According to police sources, the confrontation was sparked by the construction of a washroom for dead bodies at Line 4 of Block 11 inside the Talab Camp. As tension escalated, a chase and counter-chase ensued between the two rival groups.
During the clash, five rounds of blank shots were fired and crude bombs, locally known as cocktails, were exploded.
A police report details that a group of 50 to 60 individuals, led by Jamaat activist Manik and Suman, the son of drug dealer Mustak, locked in a clash with a rival faction of about 200 to 250 people.
The larger faction was led by BNP-leaning Chhatra Dal convener Sohel and Bihari community organisation leader Sadakat Khan Fakku.
Members of the law enforcement agencies have taken up alert positions in the area to keep the situation normal, according to the Pallabi police.
When contacted, Pallabi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Hasan Bashir stated that no party has filed any written complaint regarding the incident so far. However, a police official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed to the TIMES that a Bihari leader was detained immediately after the incident.
