A lawyer has filed a writ petition with the High Court seeking directives to take necessary steps for safety of the Supreme Court (SC) in the context of earthquakes.
SC lawyer Golam Kibria on Monday submitted the petition as a public interest litigation.
The petition also sought directives to introduce an alarming system in the case of tremors.
In the petition, four respondents including secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, chief engineer of the Public Works Department, and registrar general of the SC.
The move came following several earthquakes that struck the country recently.
On Friday, an earthquake shook the capital and surrounding areas at 10:38am. During the tremor, many people rushed outside in panic, while some even jumped from buildings. As a result, 10 people, including children, were killed and many people were injured.
Another tremor was felt on Saturday morning and two more occurred consecutively in the evening.
