Writ seeks compensation for families of measles victim children

A writ petition was filed with the High Court on Sunday seeking directions to provide Tk2 crore in compensation to each family of the 352 children who died from measles or showed related symptoms.

Supreme Court lawyer Mohammad Humayun Kabir Pallob filed the petition in the public interest.

The Health Secretary and other relevant parties have been named as respondents.

According to newspaper reports, 352 children have died of measles and measles‑like symptoms over the past 55 days.

The figure has risen to an average of 10 deaths per day over the past week.

Despite earlier assurances that measles‑related deaths would decline, the fatality rate has instead increased by one and a half times.
