Zubaida Rahman, wife of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, has reaffirmed her commitment to placing the women of Bangladesh at the centre of family and social development.
Speaking as the Vice President of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation (ZRF), she stated that the BNP government believes national development and social justice will be easier to achieve if the dignity and economic independence of women are ensured.
Zubaida Rahman made these remarks on Friday during an Iftar mahfil organised at the ZRF office in Gulshan, Dhaka, in honour of underprivileged women, children, and working-class people.
The event was attended by residents of the Vasantek and Korail slums within the Dhaka-17 constituency, with the primary objective of sharing the joy of Iftar with neglected members of society.
During her address, she emphasised that the foundation’s goal is to make underprivileged women self-reliant, noting that a society can only truly develop when women are able to stand on their own feet.
Highlighting the need for a “safe and beautiful future” for children, Zubaida Rahman stressed the importance of learning a third language alongside Bengali and English to ensure they receive priority for employment both at home and abroad.
She suggested that incorporating technical education and a third language into the curriculum from the secondary level would be essential for creating a skilled workforce.
The programme was attended by several prominent figures, including ZRF Executive Director Professor Farhad Halim Donar, Professor ABM Obaidul Islam, Syeda Taznin Waris Simkee, Professor Luthfur Rahman, Barrister Mir Helal, Professor Abul Hasnat Md. Shamim, Shah Muhammad Aman Ullah, Barrister Nasir Uddin Ahmed Asim, Engineer Alamgir Hasin Ahmed, and Engineer Umasha Umayan Moni Chowdhury, among others.
