Police recovered the body of a 55-year-old woman, found packed inside a sack at a rented house in the T&T area of Jhalokathi town on Friday night.
The deceased was identified as Molina Roy. According to police and local sources, she lived as a tenant on the ground floor of Tapan Haldar’s residence on T&T Road.
The incident was discovered when family members returned home on Friday evening after attending a Rath Yatra festival in the Bhimruli area of Kirtipasha Union. Upon their return, they found the main gate open and the furniture inside the house in total disarray.
They subsequently found the body of Molina Roy inside a sack in one of the rooms and immediately informed the police. There have also been allegations of robberies occurring in three separate flats within the building.
Upon receiving the news, Jhalokathi Sadar Police arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and sent it to the Jhalokathi Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Police also collected various pieces of evidence from the site.
Local residents suspect that miscreants may have entered the house to commit robbery and murdered Molina Roy when she attempted to resist. However, the police have not yet provided a confirmed statement regarding the motive.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) SM Bayzid Ibne Akbar said police moved quickly to recover the body and gather necessary evidence from the scene. He added that the matter is being investigated with high priority, legal proceedings are ongoing, and a thorough investigation is underway to uncover the true circumstances behind the death.
