Jaipur holds a special place in Abhishek Bachchan’s life. It was where he shot part of his debut film Refugee and, more personally, where his relationship with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan began.
When Abhishek entered the sports business in 2014 by buying a team in the Pro Kabaddi League, he chose Jaipur for reasons that went far beyond business.
Speaking on Sanjeev Krishnan’s Future Unplugged podcast, Abhishek explained the emotional connection behind his decision.
“I picked up the Jaipur team. Jaipur is where I shot a part of my first film. It was an auspicious thing to start something new. It was also a city where Aishwarya and I started dating, it has an emotional part,” he said.
The team’s name also carries a family connection. Abhishek said his daughter’s favourite colour was pink at the time, while “Pink Panther” was inspired by Aishwarya’s role in The Pink Panther 2 (2009).
“Pink because it was my daughter’s favourite colour at that point of time and ‘Pink Panther’ was a film which Aishwarya made. If you see, our Pink Panther has blue-green eyes which are the same as my wife’s. So there is a personal connect to everything about Jaipur Pink Panthers,” he said.
Hindustan Times reported on the actor’s comments.
