A Dhaka court has directed actress Tanjin Tisha to appear and show cause on 23 November in a case filed by fashion designer Sanaya Anam Wafikah Chowdhury over alleged death threats.

Sanaya filed the case on Monday before Executive Magistrate Md Mahbub-ul-Alam’s court in Dhaka. She alleged that Tisha threatened to kill her after she filed a fraud case against the actress over a sari worth Tk75,000.

Sanaya’s lawyer, Shubhra Sinha, confirmed the development and said the court had directed Tisha to appear on 23 November and show cause.

According to the complaint, Sanaya filed the earlier fraud case against Tisha on 27 November last year.

She alleged that Tisha subsequently threatened her on several occasions, demanding that she withdraw the case and warning of harm. The complaint also states that Tisha called Sanaya on 7 November last year and threatened her.

The complaint states that the court had directed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the fraud case. Sanaya alleged that the investigating officer submitted a biased report.

After she filed an objection to the report, the court on Sunday directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to conduct a further investigation.

Sanaya further alleged that, after she received the investigation report from the court, several media outlets published its contents. Tisha allegedly became angry and sent people to Sanaya’s home in Pallabi to threaten her.

Citing concerns for her safety, Sanaya said she approached a police station to file a case. However, according to her complaint, police advised her to seek legal recourse through the court rather than registering the case.
