Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman is leading the Kingdom’s delegation to Tehran on Monday for talks between representatives of the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement member countries and senior Iranian officials.
Dr Rayed Krimly, Saudi deputy minister for public diplomacy and ambassador, announced the visit in a post on X, noting that the meetings would bring together representatives of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Türkiye.
The visiting delegation includes Field Marshal Asim Munir, Pakistan’s chief of army staff, and Ibrahim Kalin, Turkish national intelligence director.
Delegates of the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement nations are scheduled to meet Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian as well as Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.
Krimly said the visit forms part of continued efforts by the agreement’s member countries to reduce tensions among parties involved in the ongoing regional crisis and foster dialogue and diplomatic solutions.
The talks also aim to support mediation efforts undertaken by Qatar and Pakistan to address the crisis.
The deputy minister noted that the diplomatic mission underscores the pivotal role of the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement countries in strengthening regional security and stability.
He emphasised their commitment to working with all countries across the region to achieve de-escalation and advance peaceful solutions.
