The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has released a list of probable candidates for 237 seats in the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced this list at a press conference held at the chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Monday evening.
A meeting of the BNP’s Standing Committee was held at the chairperson’s office in Gulshan at 12:30pm to finalise the candidate list. The party’s acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, presided over the meeting virtually from London. After a five-and-a-half-hour meeting, the Fakhrul came to the press conference.
According to the announced list, party Chairperson Khaleda Zia has received the party’s nomination for Dinajpur-3, Bogura-7, and Feni-1 constituencies. The party’s acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, is a candidate for Bogura-6, and the party’s Secretary General, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, is a candidate for Thakurgaon-1.
Among the Standing Committee members who received nominations are: Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain for Cumilla-1, Mirza Abbas for Dhaka-8, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy for Dhaka-3, Abdul Moyeen Khan for Narsingdi-2, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury for Chattogram-10, Salahuddin Ahmed for Cox’s Bazar-1, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku for Sirajganj-2, Hafizuddin Ahmed for Bhola-3, and AZM Zahid Hossain for Dinajpur-6.
Among the vice chairmen who received nominations are: Altaf Hossain Chowdhury for Patuakhali-1, Barkat Ullah Bulu for Noakhali-3, Mohammad Shahjahan for Noakhali-4, Abdul Awal Mintoo for Feni-3, Nitai Roy Chowdhury for Magura-2, Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad for Comilla-3, and Ahmed Aazam Khan for Tangail-8.
Among the members of the Chairperson’s Advisory Council who received nominations are: Monirul Haque Chowdhury for Comilla-6, Amanullah Aman for Dhaka-2, Mahbub Uddin Khokon for Noakhali-1, Zainul Abdin Farroque for Noakhali-4, Zahir Uddin Swapon for Barishal-1, Mojibur Rahman Sarwar for Barishal-5, Lutfozzaman Babar for Netrokona-4, Tasvir Ul Islam for Kurigram-3, Habibur Rahman Habib for Pabna-4, Mushfiqur Rahman for Brahmanbaria-4, Afroza Khan Rita for Manikganj-3, Moinul Islam Khan for Manikganj-2, Khandakar Abdul Muktadir for Sylhet-1, Tahmina Rushdir Luna for Sylhet-2, Abul Khair Bhuiyan for Lakshmipur-2, Enamul Haque Chowdhury for Sylhet-6, Abdus Salam Pintu for Tangail-2, Joynal Abedin (“VP” Joynal) for Feni-2, Fazlur Rahman for Kishoreganj-4, and Naser Rahman for Moulvibazar-3.
Among the Joint Secretaries General who received nominations are: Khairul Kabir Khokon for Narsingdi-1, Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee for Lakshmipur-2, and Syed Emran Saleh Prince for Mymensingh-1.
Before announcing the candidate list, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “We are announcing the names of probable candidates for 237 seats. After this, we will talk with all those parties who have waged a simultaneous movement with us; candidates for the seats we have not announced may come from them. We want to make it clear that we can also change our own seats. In that regard, we want to say that this is our list of probable candidates.”
Jamaat-e-Islami announced its candidate list a few months ago. Subsequently, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Khelafat Majlish, Gonotantra Mancha, AB Party, LDP, and most recently the Labour Party have submitted their candidate lists separately.
BNP Standing Committee members Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, Selima Rahman, Hafizuddin Ahmed, AZM Zahid Hossain, along with organising Secretaries and assistant organising secretaries, were present at the press conference.
