Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has stated that everyone wants to practice their respective religions freely, not within some security barrier, and that the state is obliged to provide equal respect to all religions.
He said, “We do not want to practice our religions within a security cordon – we want everyone to practice their religion freely. If we remain divided, we will fail as a nation; we do not want to fail. We want to build a new Bangladesh where every citizen will have equal rights.”
He made these remarks during a visit to the Dhakeshwari National Temple on Tuesday.
The chief adviser further stated, “No matter how many religious differences exist, the state cannot discriminate between us. The state is obliged to provide equal respect to all religions.”
He added, “If we remain divided, we will fail as a nation; we do not want to fail. We want to build a new Bangladesh where every citizen will have equal rights.”
“We want to build a state that the world will emulate. To realise the aspirations of July, people of all religions must work together,” he said.
Earlier, on Monday afternoon, leaders of various puja celebration committees met the Chief Adviser at the state guesthouse Jamuna. At that time, he expressed heartfelt thanks and advanced festive greetings to everyone, while also calling for everyone to remain vigilant.
Addressing the religious leaders, he said, “Although I always wish to meet with you, I rarely get the opportunity. The puja occasion allows us to meet face-to-face and talk once a year.”
During the meeting, he inquired about the preparations for the puja and the overall situation.
Inviting the chief adviser to visit the puja pavilions, the leaders of the puja celebration committees mentioned that compared to last year, the number of puja pavilions has increased by over a thousand this year and that preparations for puja pavilions across the country are progressing in full swing.
