A $15 billion defamation lawsuit was filed by US President Donald Trump against The New York Times and four of its journalists on Monday.
According to court documents by the US District Court in Florida, the lawsuit filed names several articles and one book intended to be defamatory towards President Trump, stating it was “part of a decades-long pattern” by the publication.
The book was written by two of the newspaper’s journalists and was published in the period leading up to the 2024 election.
“Defendants published such statements negligently, with knowledge of the falsity of the statements, and/or with reckless disregard of their truth or falsity,” the lawsuit says.
The New York Times did not immediately respond to an email requesting comment early Tuesday, reports AP/UNB.
Trump accused the company of becoming “a virtual ‘mouthpiece’ for the Radical Left Democrat Party”, along with announcing the lawsuit on Truth Social.
This is not the first time Trump has targeted media outlets.
Earlier this year, Trump filed a $10 billion defamation lawsuit against media mogul Rupert Murdoch and The Wall Street Journal after a story reporting the president’s friendship with wealthy financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Eptstein was published by the newspaper.
