BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has said that for the past 16 years the autocratic regime has only served its own interests and pledged that the country will be rebuilt.
He also promised to establish an information technology park or hub in Thakurgaon as part of a broader plan to modernize and restructure the nation.
Rahman made the remarks while addressing an election rally at Thakurgaon Government Boys’ High School ground on Thursday.
Emphasising the BNP’s past efforts to ease hardship through development, he assured supporters that similar initiatives will continue in the future.
“I cannot do this alone. I need your votes,” he said, also seeking support for BNP’s electoral symbol, “sheaf of paddy.”
Rahman arrived in Thakurgaon, one of three districts in northern Bangladesh, where he is scheduled to address multiple rallies as part of the BNP’s ongoing election campaign. Extensive preparations were made at the venue, with party leaders and activists expressing enthusiasm ahead of his arrival. Stringent security measures were also put in place across the town.
Following the Thakurgaon programme, Rahman will attend a second rally at Nilphamari Municipality ground around 1pm, before addressing a public meeting at Birampur Government College ground in Dinajpur.
This marks the second phase of his campaign, after his first round began on 22 January in Sylhet and continued through Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Kishoreganj, Narsingdi, and Narayanganj. He later held rallies in Rajshahi, Naogaon, Bogura, Rangpur, Sirajganj, and Tangail.
The BNP says this second round of rallies is a crucial part of its push ahead of the upcoming general elections.
