Actor Vivek Oberoi has recalled a difficult phase in his career when, he claims, a powerful Bollywood lobby sidelined him and underworld threats discouraged filmmakers from working with him, states Hindustan Times.
Speaking on the Relearn podcast, Vivek said he faced bullying after standing up against what he believed was wrong. Despite delivering successful films and winning awards, he claimed he became unwelcome in the industry and lost projects he had already signed.
He alleged that filmmakers who initially supported him later received calls from gangsters warning them against working with him.
“It was a very dark phase in my life,” Vivek said, describing the experience as “real hell”.
The actor did not name those allegedly involved. His remarks revisit the professional fallout following a controversial 2003 press conference.
Vivek rose to prominence with films such as ‘Company’ and ‘Saathiya’. He is also part of the upcoming film ‘Spirit’.
