Singapore-based Vitol Asia Pte Ltd has been selected to supply Bangladesh with one liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo at $22.35 per million British thermal units (MMBtu), with the government approving the purchase at a total cost of Tk949.43 crore.

The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase on Thursday recommended approval of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division’s proposal to procure the LNG cargo through the international request for quotation process.

The cargo, scheduled for delivery between 15 and 16 August 2026, will be Bangladesh’s 42nd LNG shipment under the current procurement cycle.

The approved contract value is Tk949,43,12,184, including advance income tax.

The purchase was processed under Rule 105(3)(a) of the Public Procurement Rules 2025, which allows procurement through international quotation collection.

Bangladesh has increasingly relied on imported LNG to bridge the gap between domestic gas production and demand from power plants, industries and households.
