Thousands of Norway fans filled the streets of Oslo after their team reached the last 16 of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Fans wore red, blue and white as they celebrated through the city on Tuesday night. Many joined in the famous “Viking row” on Karl Johans gate, the main street in Oslo.
Norway beat Ivory Coast 2-1 to claim their first knockout win at a World Cup. The result sparked huge celebrations across the capital.
The party also caused some damage. Fans uprooted plants near the Royal Palace and pulled down fence posts.
“I daren’t think what will happen if we make it all the way to the final,” Royal Gardener Ole Johan Hildre told NRK.
Metro trains also suffered damage after fans tore down ads and dented carriage ceilings. Transit officials later sent some carriages for repairs.
“It is unfortunate that people get so carried away that it affects our equipment,” Sporveien communications manager Gina Scholz told local media.
“It has been a fantastic evening.”
More than two million people in Norway watched the match, according to TV2. Norway has a population of around 5.5 million.
