Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi is set to become the first Indian actor to present an award at the International Emmy Awards, adding another milestone to his career.
According to NDTV, Sethupathi will present an award at the 54th International Emmy Awards on 23 November 2026 in New York. Previously, Priyanka Chopra presented an award alongside Tom Hiddleston at the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles in 2016.
Kavita Gupta, producer and board member of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, has played a key role in bringing Indian talent to the global ceremony. She previously helped secure comedian Vir Das as host of the 2024 International Emmy Awards, following his 2023 win for his comedy special Vir Das: Landing.
Sethupathi was last seen in Baththa, set in Madras in 1986. He plays a feared gangster whose life changes when an eight-year-old boy accidentally locks him inside an empty school toilet. Their unexpected friendship gradually reveals the softer side of the gangster.
He will next star alongside Sai Pallavi in filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s upcoming romantic drama Inji Vellam.
Meanwhile, Sethupathi’s 2024 Tamil thriller Maharaja is heading towards a potential Hollywood remake. Producer Sudhan Sundaram told The Times of India that a Hollywood agency approached the makers for remake rights following the film’s successful run in China, where it earned Rs 91.65 crore at the box office, according to Sacnilk, and performed well on OTT.
The agency is developing the project and hopes to secure an A-list actor. The remake could begin production next year.
Social media speculation has linked Matthew McConaughey to the project. Sundaram said the actor might be among those approached but stressed that only the agency could confirm the casting. The makers have yet to announce the cast or studio.
