Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan today urged all to use jute and jute bags avoiding plastic and polythene bags.
“In particular, single-use polythene bags must be eliminated completely ,” she said, stressing the need to develop the habit of using cloth and jute bags instead of polythene.
She made the remarks while exchanging views with environmental organizations and students at the Rajshahi Circuit House this morning.
Highlighting the severe environmental damage caused by plastic and polythene shopping bags, she noted that the government has already undertaken various initiatives to encourage the public to adopt eco-friendly alternatives.
The environment adviser added that public involvement, alongside government efforts, is essential for success in this regard.
Rizwana urged the younger generation to embrace an environment-friendly lifestyle, stating, “Every small step we take can lead to big changes.”
Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner Afia Akhtar, General Secretary of Bangladesh Poriborton Andolon (BAPA) Alamgir Kabir, representatives of various environmental organizations, government officials and students joined the meeting. All attendees emphasized the importance of strengthening awareness activities at the local level for environmental conservation.
