US President Donald Trump said in a Fox News interview that the United States ‘shouldn’t have been in Iran,’ as he reflected on past American military interventions.
“You look at what happened with Iraq. We did so bad. It was such a foolish thing what we did. We shouldn’t have been there in the first place, by the way,” Trump said, before adding, “We shouldn’t have been in Iran, but Iran has the capability.”
Trump argued that without US military strikes, Iran would already possess a nuclear weapon, reports Middle East Eye.
He said, “they would have a nuclear weapon right now and will be a whole different story,” adding, “If we didn’t hit them with B-2 bombers, nine months ago, they would have a nuclear weapon right now.”
The US president also claimed that Washington had intentionally refrained from targeting much of Iran’s military infrastructure.
