Ambassador Tracey Ann Jacobson, Chargé d’Affaires at the US Embassy in Dhaka, is set to meet with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin on Monday at 2pm.
The meeting will take place at the CEC’s office, according to a press release issued by the Election Commission on Sunday. Commission officials confirmed the details of the meeting.
This will be the first official meeting between the US Embassy and the CEC since the political shift that occurred on August 5 last year.
A prior meeting scheduled for August 28 was canceled due to student protests in Agargaon under the banner of the Krishibid Oikya Parishad,’ which blocked road in Agargaon area to press home their demands.
Sources indicate that Monday’s meeting is expected to cover the upcoming national election, the Commission’s preparedness, and the expectations of the international community regarding the electoral process.
