The US State Department has approved a possible emergency sale of munitions and military support to Israel valued at $151.8 million.

In a statement, the department said Secretary of State Marco Rubio had determined that an “emergency exists that requires the immediate sale to the Government of Israel,” reports Al Jazeera.

The statement said the proposed transfer aims to strengthen a key regional ally.

“This proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to improve the security of a strategic regional partner that has been, and continues to be, an important force for political stability and economic progress in the Middle East,” the statement added.

The emergency package includes BLU-110A/B general-purpose bombs, along with logistics and support services.
