Universal Pictures has unveiled a new trailer for its upcoming epic ‘The Odyssey’, directed by Christopher Nolan, during Monday night’s episode of ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’.
The film stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, alongside an ensemble cast that includes Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Mia Goth, Benny Safdie, Jon Bernthal and John Leguizamo.
The trailer offers a broader look at Nolan’s adaptation of The Odyssey by Homer, including first glimpses of Theron as Circe and Pattinson as Antinous, who seeks to claim the kingdom of Ithaca during Odysseus’ absence.
Footage also reveals elements central to the original epic, including the cyclops, shown holding one of Odysseus’ soldiers, scenes from the battle of Troy, and what appears to be an encounter with the Laestrygonians, a race of giants. The trailer also includes a brief appearance of Argos, Odysseus’ loyal dog.
Nolan wrote the screenplay based on Homer’s poem and produced the film with Emma Thomas under their Syncopy banner. The film has been shot using new IMAX technology and is scheduled for release in cinemas on July 17.
