Casemiro backed Michael Carrick for the permanent Manchester United job after the interim manager led the club to 10 wins in 14 matches and a place in next season’s Champions League.
Carrick took charge until the end of the season after United sacked Ruben Amorim in January following a 14-month spell. United climbed to third in the Premier League under him and beat Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea during that run.
Casemiro praised Carrick’s work since he stepped in. “I think he’s a guy who has already demonstrated that he has very good qualities to be a Manchester United coach,” he told ESPN Brazil. “Of course, the season is year-round. But since he arrived, he’s been doing an incredible job and I think that with more time, he has everything to be a great manager of Manchester United.”
United sit on 64 points with three matches left and have secured Champions League football for next season. The team play with a clear structure in midfield and press higher up the pitch than earlier in the campaign, which has led to quick turnovers and direct attacks against top sides.
Carrick now faces a decision period as the club weigh a permanent appointment. United travel to Sunderland on Saturday as they aim to secure their league position in the final weeks of the season.
