Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, the Ameer of Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Charmonai Pir, said in a statement on Saturday, that in July 2024, students and the public gave their blood and lives to permanently uproot dictatorship from the country.

He said, “Hasina’s flight was one part of that desire. The next task was to block all potential paths for the creation of autocracy in the country by reforming the constitution, laws, and politics. However, I see with great sorrow that, without completing fundamental reforms, without ensuring the legal basis of the July Charter, and without implementing the July Charter, arrangements are being made to hold an election by any means necessary and thrust the country back into the old vicious cycle. In such a reality, by the will of Allah, all anti-autocracy political and social forces will unite to build a simultaneous movement.”

Charmonai Pir also said, “The mourning in the families of those killed in July is still ongoing, the wounds of the injured have not yet healed, and the youth who were blinded are still walking in the dark. Yet, there is no progress in the judicial process against those involved with fascism. Proven accomplices of fascism are arrogantly announcing their entry into politics. The July Charter, achieved at the cost of so much blood and lives, is being undermined. There is a rush to hold elections under the old arrangement. Overall, it appears that the sacrifices of July are being diminished. Islami Andolan Bangladesh cannot allow this to happen. True to the pledge of courage and risk we took by standing against Hasina in July, Islami Andolan Bangladesh will once again take to the streets.

The Amir of Islami Andolan Bangladesh said, “Our demands are clear. We want the implementation of the July Charter, we want its legal basis. We want the swift assurance of justice for fascism. We want to stop the rehabilitation of accomplices of fascism in politics. We want elections under the Proportional Representation (PR) system. Our stance is not against any particular party. Rather, our stance stems from a responsibility towards the blood and lives given in the July uprising. Our programmes in support of these demands will be presented at a press conference on Monday, September 15, Insha’Allah.”
