Police recovered the body of an unidentified young man floating in the sea at the Shah Porir Dwip Dakshin Para of Teknaf, a border upazila in Cox’s Bazar, on Friday.
The body washed ashore near Hazipara embankment during high tide on Friday afternoon. Upon receiving reports from local residents, members of Shah Porir Dwip Police Outpost arrived at the scene to retrieve the deceased.
According to local witnesses, the naked body was found trapped among the concrete blocks of the embankment. The discovery was immediately reported to the police outpost, who recovered the body with assistance of the locals.
Preliminary suspicions suggest the deceased may be one of the individuals missing following a Rohingya boat capsize that occurred earlier.
However, police are still conducting the necessary legal procedures to confirm the identity of the individual.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Sanjib, the in-charge of Shah Porir Dwip Police Outpost, said the deceased is approximately 32 years old. He added that the man had a beard and that no significant injury marks were visible on the body during initial inspection.
“An inquest report has been prepared,” SI said. “Preparations are underway to send the body to the Cox’S Bazar District Sadar Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination. Simultaneously, efforts to identify the deceased are ongoing,” he added.
Md Saiful Islam, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Teknaf Model Police Station, confirmed the recovery of the unidentified male body from the Shah Porir Dwip coastal area. He said legal formalities are being completed following the recovery and that the process of sending the body for autopsy is currently in progress.
The OC added that further legal action will be taken regarding the incident.
