A diagnostic centre in Gangni upazila of Meherpur was sealed by health authorities for operating without approval.
The action was taken on Thursday afternoon during a mobile court drive at the US Diagnostic Centre in Bamandi Bazar.
The operation was led by executive magistrate and Gangni upazila assistant commissioner (land) Nabid Hossain. He said no healthcare or diagnostic facility is permitted to operate without approval from the health department.
After receiving complaints that the US Diagnostic Centre had been running without authorisation for a long time, officials verified the information and launched the drive to take legal action.
During the inspection, authorities found that the centre had no required documents, registration or approval papers. Initial checks also showed that its activities did not comply with health standards or government regulations.
Considering the situation, the mobile court ordered the immediate closure of the centre and sealed the premises.
The magistrate said unauthorised medical facilities pose a serious threat to public health and that similar enforcement drives would continue to ensure public safety. The district health department has urged all diagnostic centre owners to complete the necessary documentation and follow the regulations.
Gangni upazila health and family planning officer Abdul Aziz, medical officer MK Reza, sanitary inspector Mosiur Rahman and other health officials were present during the operation.
A team from Gangni Police Station assisted in the drive.
