United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has welcomed the 10-day ceasefire announced on Thursday between Israel and Lebanon, urging all parties to fully respect the truce.
His spokesman Stéphane Dujarric said in a statement that the Secretary-General welcomed the ceasefire announcement and commended the role of the United States in facilitating the agreement.
He expressed hope that the temporary halt in fighting would pave the way for negotiations.
Guterres also urged all actors to fully respect the ceasefire and comply with their obligations under international law, including international humanitarian law, at all times.
The call applies broadly to all parties involved in the conflict, including the militant group Hezbollah.
