BRAC University welcomed Baroness Winterton of Doncaster, the UK’s trade envoy to Bangladesh, on her visit to the university’s Merul Badda campus on October 9. Accompanied by Sarah Cooke, the British High Commissioner, and Stephen Forbes, country director of the British Council, the baroness was received by Tamara Hasan Abed, chairperson of the board of trustees, and Professor Syed Ferhat Anwar, vice-chancellor of BRAC University.

During her visit, Baroness Winterton toured the university’s campus, known for its sustainable, energy-efficient infrastructure that harmonizes environmental consciousness with modern learning facilities. After the campus tour, she sat down for a meeting with the university leadership to discuss academic and research collaborations.

Winterton, a strong advocate of the partnership between BRAC University and SOAS University of London, celebrated the ongoing collaboration, which was officially launched in June. The partnership introduces a groundbreaking PhD program, designed to foster global research and academic exchange between the two institutions.

This visit underscored the significant contributions of BRAC University to higher education in Bangladesh, while also exploring opportunities to expand educational and research ties between Bangladesh and the UK.
