Two spectators suffered cardiac arrests and died during the second day of the ATP Finals at the Inalpi Arena in Turin, the Italian Tennis Federation (FITP) and the ATP confirmed on Tuesday.
The individuals, aged 70 and 78, experienced the incidents at separate times on Monday. The first singles match of the day, between Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti and the United States’ Taylor Fritz, was briefly delayed following an announcement regarding a medical situation in the arena.
A joint statement from FITP and the ATP read: “The Italian Tennis and Padel Federation and the ATP express their deepest condolences following the tragic passing of two spectators yesterday during the ATP Finals in Turin. On-site medical and emergency personnel responded immediately, providing all possible assistance. Despite prompt intervention and subsequent transfer to hospital, both sadly passed away.”
The season-ending championships have been held at the Turin arena since 2021, with the city confirmed as host for the 2026 edition. The ATP Finals are set to remain in Italy until at least 2030.
Monday’s sessions drew large crowds, with Italian fans cheering on home players including defending champion Jannik Sinner, who defeated Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime.
