Two second‑grade students drowned in a pond in Mehendiganj upazila of Barishal on Sunday.
The victims were identified as Nahian, 8, son of Jahangir Sardar, and Yakub, 8, son of Yusuf Talukdar. Both are residents of the Kharki area and students of Kharki Government Primary School.
Mehendiganj Police Station Officer‑in‑charge (OC) Momin Uddin said the incident occurred in Kharki area Sunday afternoon, reports UNB.
Family members and locals said the boys had gone to school together in the morning but did not return home after classes ended around 12:45pm. When they remained missing for hours, relatives began searching.
Around 5pm, residents found the boys’ shoes near a pond ghat on the southern side of Kharki Government Primary School. Locals entered the pond and recovered the bodies.
OC Momin said no case had been filed yet. Further action would follow after investigation, he added.
