A fishing trawler named FB Mahima, carrying 13 fishermen from the Fakirhat area of Taltali in Barguna, has capsized in the turbulent Bay of Bengal.

The accident occurred at approximately 3:00 am on Tuesday, about 60 kilometres south of the Taltali coast. While 11 of the fishermen were rescued from the water by a nearby vessel, two others identified as Kalam and Shahid remain missing.

Tapan Jamadder, the owner of FB Mahima, stated that the vessel set out to sea on Tuesday morning. He noted that the trawler sank amid adverse weather conditions and high waves.

The two missing fishermen are residents of the Baro Amkhola area in Taltali.

Bangladesh Fishermen’s Trawler Owners’ Association President Golam Mostafa Chowdhury said four trawlers from have been dispatched to the site to assist Taltali and Patharghata Coast Guard. However, rescue operations are being hampered by the extremely rough sea.

Taltali Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Zahidul Islam confirmed that the Coast Guard and Navy have been notified of the incident. The upazila administration is maintaining constant communication with the authorities to coordinate the search and rescue efforts.
