Two ships carrying 2 lakh metric tonnes of oil have anchored at the jetty, but the news has not received proper media coverage, Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni told journalists at the National Parliament Building on Wednesday.

The chief whip said the media has given greater attention to the closure of the country’s only state-owned oil refinery, Eastern Refinery PLC Limited in Chattogram.

Multilingual training

Briefing reporters during a break in the 13th parliament session, Nurul Islam said the current prime minister has been working for the overall welfare of the country since assuming office, with main goals of humanitarian welfare, building a humane state, establishing democracy, and preserving independence and sovereignty.

Constitutional amendment

On constitutional amendment, the chief whip acknowledged differences of opinion between the government and opposition but expressed optimism about reaching a consensus.

“Although there are currently some differences of opinion between us and the opposition regarding constitutional amendment, we will all reach a consensus and present a proposal collectively,” he said.

“Our main goal is to establish democracy firmly, preserve independence and sovereignty, and work for the constructive development of the country. We want to prosper through discussion and criticism in parliament, and reaching a consensus from a place of patriotism is only a matter of time.”
