Two young men were killed after two motorcycles collided head-on in the Pateshwari Bazar area of Kurigram Sadar upazila on Sunday night.
The accident occurred around 11pm, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kurigram Sadar Police Station Kamal Hossain.
The deceased were identified as Hira Mia, 28, son of Motaleb Mia of Jhakuabari village under Bhitorband Union in Nageshwari upazila, and Safiur Rahman Shuvo, 23, son of Mizanur Rahman Majnu of Monweshwar village under Vidyananda Union in Rajarhat upazila.
According to the relatives of the victims and local residents, the accident took place when two motorcycles travelling from the Bhurungamari and Kurigram town directions collided head-on in the Pateshwari Bazar area around 11pm.
Several riders of both motorcycles were injured in the crash. Local residents rescued the injured and took them to Kurigram General Hospital.
As Hira Mia and Safiur Rahman Shuvo were in critical condition, they were later referred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
Kamal Hossain, OC of Kurigram Sadar Police Station, confirmed the deaths and said legal action was being taken in connection with the incident.
