Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have seized a covered van carrying Indian sarees worth Tk3.58 crore during a task force operation in Shantiganj Bazar area of Sunamganj district early Monday.
Acting on a tip-off, a special task force of Sunamganj BGB-28 Battalion conducted the operation around 3:40am and intercepted the covered van, according to a BGB press release.
The operation was led by Sunamganj District Administration Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Mehedi Hasan Hridoy and BGB-28 Assistant Director Md Selim Rana.
Later, the team recovered 2,684 Indian sarees of different varieties and price ranges from the vehicle.
The estimated market value of the seized sarees is Tk3,58,19,000, the release said.
The seized goods will be handed over to Sunamganj Customs authorities for further action.
