Two people were killed after a private car lost control and crashed into a bridge in Patnitala upazila, Naogaon on Sunday night.
The accident occurred around 9:30pm in the Ambati Double Bridge area along the Nazipur-Dhamuirhat regional road, according to Patnitala Police Station.
The deceased were identified as Motiur, 45, son of Sharif Uddin, and Nazmul, 45, son of Nazrul Islam, both from Choubaria village in Manda upazila, Naogaon.
Police sources said Motiur and Nazmul were travelling from their home towards Hili by a private car. Upon reaching the Ambati Double Bridge area, the driver lost control and the vehicle hit the bridge railing.
The car was severely mangled in the impact, leaving both victims trapped inside. Locals rescued them and rushed them to Patnitala Upazila Health Complex, where on-duty doctors declared them dead.
Patnitala Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Niamul Haque said police were dispatched to the scene immediately after receiving the news.
“Contact has been made with the families of the deceased. The bodies will be handed over to them after legal procedures are completed,” the OC added.
