Two journalists have been attacked while carrying out their professional duties in Salimpur, Sitakunda, Chittagong. The incident occurred around 11am on Sunday as they were out gathering news.
The injured journalists have been identified as Bureau Chief of Ekhon TV Hosain Ziad and cameraman Parvez Rahman.
Ziad, who sustained serious injuries, was rushed to Chittagong Medical College (CMCH) Hospital for treatment.
The attack has drawn strong condemnation from Chittagong Press Club, Chittagong Metropolitan Journalists’ Union, and working journalists across the city.
Dr Upal Chowdhury, a physician at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH), told The TIMES of Bangladesh that both journalists were admitted in critical condition.
Ziad’s injuries are severe, and he has bruises on his head. He has been referred to the Neurosurgery Department. Parvez Rahman also sustained injuries to his body.
Repeated attempts to reach Sitakunda Circle Additional Superintendent of Police Arian Labib and Officer-in-Charge Mujibur Rahman of Sitakunda Model Police Station for comment were unsuccessful.
