Two children drowned in a pond in West Bhurghata village of Khanjapur Union, Gournadi Upazila, Barishal, on Tuesday morning.
The deceased were Ramzan Howlader, 3, son of Kawsar Howlader of the village and Mohammad Mridha, 3, son of Bahadur Mridha, a resident of Goyal village under Agailjhara upazila of the district. They were cousins.
The incident occurred around 9:45 am. According to locals, Ramzan and Mohammad were playing in the yard around 9 am when they accidentally fell into a nearby pond, unnoticed by family members.
After a search, the children were rescued and taken to Kalkini Upazila Health Complex in Madaripur, where the on-duty doctor pronounced them dead.
Gournadi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tarik Hasan Rasel confirmed the incident.
