Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan visited several Rohingya camps in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, on Friday, reaffirming Turkey’s commitment to continuing ongoing humanitarian projects for refugees.
Hakan Fidan arrived in Cox’s Bazar from Dhaka by air on Friday afternoon and proceeded to Balukhali Camp-9 around 4pm.
There, he inspected a field hospital established with Turkish support and spoke with Rohingya patients receiving treatment.
He later visited Camps 16 and 17 to review additional Turkish-supported healthcare and aid facilities and gather updates from officials.
During the visit, the Turkish foreign minister reiterated that Turkey would continue funding and supporting ongoing projects in the camps, with no new commitments announced.
Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir, Ukhiya Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rifat Asma, Officer-in-Charge of Ukhiya Police Station Md Mujibur Rahman, officials from the 8th Armed Police Battalion (APBn), RAB-15, and other law enforcement and intelligence personnel were present during the visit.
Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Mohammad Mizanur Rahman said Turkish FM personally interacted with camp residents and reviewed ongoing projects, emphasizing Turkey’s continued support.
Commander of APBn-8, Riaz Uddin Ahmed, said heightened security measures ensured the visit was conducted smoothly and peacefully.
The Turkish foreign minister’s visit highlights continued international support for the Rohingya community and ongoing collaborative efforts to maintain essential services and healthcare in the camps.
