US President Donald Trump has said he is not ready to strike a deal to end the military campaign against Iran, saying the conditions proposed so far are insufficient.
Speaking in an interview with NBC News on Saturday, the US president said the current proposals from Tehran do not meet Washington’s expectations for a ceasefire agreement, reports Xinhua.
“Iran wants to make a deal, and I don’t want to make it because the terms aren’t good enough yet,” he said of ending the war against Iran in an interview with NBC News, adding that any terms will have to be “very solid.”
Although Trump declined to disclose the specific conditions the United States is seeking, he indicated that any potential ceasefire would require Iran to fully abandon its nuclear ambitions.
His remarks come two weeks after the United States and Israel launched large-scale attacks on Iran on 28 February.
The ongoing strikes have disrupted global shipping routes, driven oil prices sharply higher and created turbulence in the global economy.
