Chief of Army Staff General Waker‑Uz‑Zaman has said soldiers deployed in the field in 2024 to meet national needs are now gradually returning to barracks as the country stabilises.
The nation will remain grateful for the role played by soldiers during a critical juncture, he also said.
He said this on Thursday morning at the closing and prize‑giving ceremony of Bangladesh Army Firing Competition 2026 at Cumilla Cantonment.
Congratulating the winners and runners‑up, he said, “Even after performing field duties for the past 18 months, the soldiers have shown remarkable skill in the firing competition.”
Following his speech, he distributed prizes among the winning and runner‑up teams.
The competition, organised under the overall management of Headquarters 33 Infantry Division, began on 16 May. A total of 17 teams participated, including formations, logistics areas, five independent brigades and the Para Commando Brigade.
The 17 Infantry Division emerged champion, while the Para Commando Brigade finished runner‑up.
Senior officers including the Master General of Ordnance, Commandant of Bangladesh Ordnance Factory, General Officer Commanding 33 Infantry Division and Cumilla Area Commander, General Officer Commanding 17 Infantry Division and Sylhet Area Commander, as well as officers from Army Headquarters and various formations, and soldiers of different ranks were present.
