François Valérian, chair of the International Board of Transparency International (TI), is set to arrive in Dhaka on Tuesday for a three-day visit at the invitation of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB).
The announcement came on Monday through a press release issued by TIB, which noted that this will be Valérian’s first visit to Bangladesh since being elected chair of TI’s International Board in 2023.
According to the release, the purpose of Valérian’s visit is to exchange experiences on anti-corruption efforts and governance reforms at both global and national levels, as well as to gain firsthand insights into TIB’s activities, opportunities, and challenges. During his stay, he will meet with TIB staff, leaders of 45 regional Committees of Concerned Citizens (Sonak), and 65 youth leaders from the Youth Engagement and Support (YES) platform.
He is also scheduled to hold discussions with government and non-government stakeholders, civil society representatives, and media professionals.
Valérian is a noted academic and researcher who has been serving on TI’s International Board since 2019. From 2013 to 2023, he was a member of the TI France Board, where he worked extensively on illicit financial flows and money laundering. Under his leadership, TI’s Secretariat initiated G-20 level actions on financial regulation and anti-corruption.
Transparency International, a Berlin-based global anti-corruption coalition, operates in over 100 countries through national chapters, with TIB recognised as one of its largest and most active.
